the seemingly forgotten...

...we hear about the war all the time. It's become a part of our everyday life. A bombing here, casualties there...we are almost forced to become immune to the news reports that we're bombarded with. As much as we don't want to admit it, it's easier that way. But it's also dangerous (and I'm saying this as someone who is admittedly guilty of this). We can't forget. We can't leave these men and women out there alone. It's not a conscious decision. We don't mean to do it, but it does happen. And what's worse are those that have been injured and whose lives have become a daily battle of physical and emotional agony. These seem to be the most forgotten people. We admire them. We praise them for their service and sacrifice, meaning every heartfelt word, and then we leave them to their own devices. Today was a little different, at least for a few amazing people.  A small group of recovering soldiers enjoyed a day out at the lake. My aunt, uncle and their friends belong to a beautiful little lake out in Gaithersburg, MD and they are committed to conservation, education, and plain old fun. One of the most important events that they host is this Walter Reed Army Medical Center outing. You can see just how much it means to everyone involved. For these soldiers, I can only imagine how wonderful it must be to be able to venture out and not be constantly reminded of their challenges. They sat back and enjoyed a beautiful day of fishing, good food, and new found friendships. It's truly humbling. These are extraordinary men and women who deserve not only our praise and appreciation, but to see that we care for them...really care for their well being. We need to remember that once they're home, they need our support more than ever.

we do seem to always find a furry friend wherever we go...meet Max
